White Shrimp/Mongoose-style Trawls
These trawls are of #6, #7, or #9 twines of poly and are hung on poly rope. White shrimp trawls will usually utilize a "mongoose" pattern which means they have an extra panel, called a tongue, sewn into the top of the trawl to catch the white shrimp/green tails that may jump out of the trawl as you pull. These trawls do require a center line. Trawl Only is a complete trawl including a tail bag with fish excluders (2 per NC requirement) and has floats and chains. A Complete Trawl includes all the Trawl Only components plus two poly tow lines, tickler chain, trawl doors, shackles to attach everything, a recreational fisherman's pink float for the tail bag (if applicable), and a center line for the white shrimp trawls - everything you need to hook up to your boat.
When you order your trawl, you must designate if you want a tailbag made from 1 3/4" webbing with the larger fish excluders, as is required in some NC waters. Otherwise, the default mailbag is made from 1 1/2 webbing, as is allowed in most NC waters. There is an additional charge of $35 for the larger tailbag. If you are unsure which regulations pertain to you, please contact the division of Marine Fisheries.
